3 Mistakes to Avoid When Turning Trendy Kitchen Ideas into Reality |
Date Added: September 01, 2018 01:19:22 PM |
When you’re exploring modern kitchen design ideas, it can be easy to get quickly carried away with the excitement. Everyone loves a fresh new kitchen and the potential that it has to improve your life and the value of your home. However, most of the real kitchen design work takes place at a very early stage to establish key needs such as the working triangle. Of course, many designers will welcome client input, but these designs may contain inherent design flaws. In this article, we will look at three of the most common mistakes that many enthusiastic new kitchen designers make. 1. Cabinet Minimum Depths Should be 700mmA depth of at least 600mm is the industry standard for kitchen cabinets, but this will not be sufficient to suit your needs. At a depth of 600mm, you will be limiting your available options for a variety of kitchen essentials, such as sinks, taps and storage spaces. If your budget can stretch, go for a wider kitchen cabinet of 680mm or even 700mm. 2. Make the Most of Your Ceiling HeightThe industry standard for kitchen cabinet heights is 2200mm, and in many kitchens, with lower ceilings, this is more than adequate. However, kitchens with taller ceilings may benefit from a more tailored solution, and a higher cabinet would be more appropriate. Many homes have a ceiling height of 2700mm, and a cabinet in that space would have 500mm of lost space at the top. A taller cabinet could be extended to just under the ceiling cornice, and as a result, you will have more useful space. 3. Consider the Fridge Door OpeningsThe fridge doors will be opening and closing all day long, and it’s vital that they can do this without being impeded. The worst place to put a fridge is right up against a wall because it will open 90 degrees before the fridge handle hits the wall. Many modern fridges have drinks or ice dispensers and crispers that can only be accessed when the fridge is more than 90 degrees open. A fridge door that cannot fully open will also be much harder to clean and fill after shopping. Increase the width of the fridge space and mask the space usefully by place a taller cabinet there against the wall instead.
